Mini’s key systems vary a lot by generation. Early R50/R53 Coopers use a Valeo-style remote that is programmed via a factory barcode process and typically needs genuine remotes or specialist work — while we’re developing broader solutions for some of those remotes, we can still programme a working key to start the car. The R56 and R60 era introduced the circular slot key (insert into the dash then press Start/Stop) — these slot keys are straightforward for our equipment to programme, though models with later software updates may sometimes require removal of the CAS module for reprogramming (a more involved process we’re experienced with). Newer F56 Minis use FEM/BDC security that is more locked down; in certain all-keys-lost scenarios only a dealer can complete the job, so we recommend arranging a spare key while you still can.
